After Ricky Gervais’ hilarious appearance at the recent Emmy awards, it’s no wonder that rumors are flying that Gervais could be the next star to host the 2009 Oscars.

Academy Awards organizers want to have a sit down with Ricky Gervais to talk about the 2009 Oscar hosting gig. How great would he be as host?

If the Oscar deal doesn’t pan out, we’ve got Ricky Gervais starring in Ghost Town at theaters now, an upcoming HBO comedy special in November and the 2009 film “This Side of Truth,” co-starring Tina Fey and Jennifer Garner.

“Extras” Complete Series Set Released Tuesday; Extra Special Series Finale Released February

When I found out that the complete set of “Extras,” including the Extra Special Series Finale, was going to be released in January, I scratched it from my Christmas list so that I could get the whole series in one set.

“Extras” has been available on DVD, but many feared that the only way to get the Extra Special Series Finale would be to purchase the new set – not cool if you already own the first two seasons.

But fear not, the standalone special will also be released — you’ll just have to wait until February to get it.

“Extras – The Complete Series Gift Set” (which includes the finale special) will be released Tuesday, January 15.

Those interested in buying just the Extras – Extra Special Series Finale can do so February 26th. It’s available for pre-order from Amazon for $13.99.

Ricky Gervais Talks About “Extras” Finale (Video)

“Extras: The Extra Special Series Finale” airs December 16 on HBO at 9 PM. Don’t miss the 80 minute special, which will include guest appearances by Clive Owen, Gordon Ramsey and George Michael. Ricky Gervais talks about the “Extra” finale in this MTV interview video clip.

The Extras Complete Series (Seasons 1 and 2 plus the finale) will be available as a boxed set on January 15.

Ricky Gervais, Jennifer Garner to Star in Film

Always hilarious Rick Gervais and always perky Jennifer Garner will star opposite one another in the film “This Side of the Truth.” Gervais, known for creating the original British version of “The Office,” as well as “Extras,” will co-write and co-direct the film.

Gervais will play a man who is so adept at lying that he lands a beautiful woman, played by Garner. Production will begin in the spring.

Ricky Gervais Plans Final Episode of “Extras”

Ricky Gervais fans are about to shed a tear for the series finale of his HBO show “Extras.” Much like Gervais planned with the original British version of “The Office,” “Extras” will have its final showing with a special finale episode. Titled “The Extra Special Series Finale,” the 80-minute show will air Sunday, December 16th. Find out what happens with Gervais’ character Andy Millman, his clueless agent (Stephen Merchant) and his best buddy Maggie (played by the adorable Ashley Jensen, who can currently be seen as seamstress Christina McKinney on “Ugly Betty”). And of course, what would “Extras” be without special celebrity guests – the season finale will include Clive Owen, David Tennant, George Michael and Gordon Ramsay.
