Looks like the Writers Guild of America East may have swayed Ellen DeGeneres’ decision about taping her show in New York. DeGeneres has scrapped her plans for a New York visit and will instead tape on her home turf, in California. DeGeneres already has some enemies among the striking writers, as she continues to tape her show even when other shows have shut down.
WGA East was not too happy about her plans to tape in New York and said she was not welcome there. WGA East president Michael Winship said of the host’s change of plans, “We’re delighted that Ellen DeGeneres has decided not to come to New York to tape her program.”

Wow, looks like Ellen DeGeneres isn’t making any friends with the writers on strike. In a bold move, she chose to cross the picket line and continue taping her show, despite the fact that much of the television community is backing their writers by picketing alongside them (you’ve probably seen pictures of the casts of “Ugly Betty,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Scrubs” and “Grey’s Anatomy” out on the line, among others). Ellen DeGeneres is taking the heat for crossing picket lines to carry on with the taping of her show, especially when so many other shows have seen their actors joining the writers in their protest. Ellen stated that the reason she carried on was because of people who may have traveled long distances in order to be at the taping of her show and she didn’t want to let them down but the protesting writers are unimpressed.
Ellen tried to smooth ruffled feathers with this statement to her audience:
“I want to say I love my writers. I love them. In honor of them today, I’m not going to do a monologue. I support them and hope that they get everything they’re asking for. And I hope it works out soon. In the meantime, people have traveled across the country. They’ve made plans. They’re here. I want to do everything I can to make your trip enjoyable and give you a show.”

Rihanna is the latest singer to be rumored to be performing at the 2007 American Music Awards on November 18th. Other rumored lineups include Chris Brown, Mariah Carey, Daughtry, Celine Dion, Duran Duran, Maroon 5, Alicia Keys, and Rascall Flatts. I don’t know who is confirmed but I’ll even endure the horrid Celine Dion if it means I can see Duran Duran!
