In last night’s Late Show monologue, David Letterman addressed the death threat against him posted on a jihadist website, asking Muslim followers to “cut the tongue” of Letterman because of a joke he had made about al-Qaida leaders.

“Tonight,” Letterman said, “you people are more, to me, honestly, than an audience — you’re more like a human shield.”

Letterman explained, “Backstage, I was talking to the guy from CBS. We were going through the CBS life insurance policy to see if I was covered for jihad.”

Letterman said in his monologue, “A guy, a radical extremist threatened to cut my tongue out… I wish I had a nickel for every time a guy has threatened (that). I think the first time was during the Academy Awards.”

Later, Larry Crowne co-star Tom Hanks joins Julia Roberts for a Newlywed Game segment:

Behold, Jason Segel passed out in bed with taco bell wrappers on his face.

Segel shared, “Unfortunately my assistant had a key to my room in case I overslept. She came in one day to wake me up and she took a bunch of pictures to show me what I had become.”

Samuel L. Jackson reads:

David Letterman has a lot of questions and tries to clear up the confusion he has – Chaz Bono walks Dave through it, talking about sexuality and the “gender of your brain.”

Bono said he always felt male and discusses the difficulty once he hit puberty.

Betty White, appearing on David Letterman to promote her new book, “If You Ask Me (And Of Course You Won’t),” is asked by Dave what the dating situation is like.

White joked of Dave’s inquiry, “Why do you make it sound like such a remote possibility? I mean, is there a possibility? How in the world?!’” she teased.

White did share, “Of course I am! Waste not, want not is the way I look at it,” Betty adds, but notes that she never knows what she’s talking about when she chats with Dave.

As for Betty including a photo of herself with Jay Leno in her book, White explains, “I’m so sorry… I lost a bet.”

Brian Williams also gives a big shout out to his wife, who apparently knows the drill all too well and had his car started and water bottle in the car ready for Brian to head to the news desk to report on bin Laden.
