I really wanted to like the new CBS series, “Welcome to the Captain,” that stars “Arrested Development’s” Jeffrey Tambor (Uncle Saul) and Chris Klein (Marty), but the pilot episode for me fell flat.
In “Welcome to the Captain,” the main character, Josh Flug (Fran Kranz) moves into the El Capitan apartment building in L.A. upon the advice of his friend Marty (Klein), rather than moving to New York. Josh is recovering from a breakup and trying to get his writing career back on track after having won an Oscar for writing a short film some years before. Read the rest of this entry »
Reality ratings winner “Survivor” has just been given the go-ahead for two more cycles.
The upcoming 16th season of “Survivor” will begin on Thursday, February 7 — the Micronesia installment that pits The Fans against The Favorites.
While the two additional seasons (which Jeff Probst will continue to host) have not revealed any details of location or casting, CBS is thrilled to have the reality series on board.
According to CBS reality boss Ghen Maynard, “Survivor is a show that defies ratings gravity. It is a truly remarkable feat to be winning your time period in all ratings categories after 15 editions.”
Garth Brooks: Live in L.A. aired on CBS last night – a show from the Staples Center in Los Angeles to benefit the Southern California Fire Intervention Relief Effort (F.I.R.E.).
Last night’s live show was the first of five shows that Garth Brooks will perform over two days. Read the rest of this entry »
CBS’ post-apocalyptic drama, “Jericho,” which was saved from cancellation when fans sent copious amounts of peanuts to the network, is getting a second life on the SciFi Channel.
SciFi Channel now has the rerun rights to “Jericho” for three-years, enabling the network to run the first and second seasons of the series. Read the rest of this entry »
As the writers’ strike continues, CBS is looking for programming to beef up their weak schedule – enter Showtime’s “Dexter.” “Dexter” may just land on the CBS lineup, with CBS president and CEO Leslie Moonves commenting, “Dexter is probably the first one to go on — with some edits. It fits with our crime shows.” It’ll be interesting to see a) if it does indeed join the lineup and b) just how much editing will need to be done.
It’s that time of year – time to roll out the Christmas specials! CBS has announced their lineup, which includes some old favorites and new offerings, including the much talked about Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (what’s that have to do with the holidays anyway?). Here’s the breakdown:
Tuesday, December 4th (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT): Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Tuesday, December 4th (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT): The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
Friday, December 7th (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT): Frosty the Snowman
Friday, December 7th (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT): Frosty Returns
Friday, December 7th (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT): Movies Rock (a celebration of music and film)
Friday, December 21st (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT): 9th Annual A Home for the Holiday with Sheryl Crow
Saturday, December 22nd (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT): Elf
With the writers’ strike still in full effect, the need to fill the TV schedule may push some reality programming up – including an earlier air date for CBS’ “Big Brother.” While “Big Brother” has typically filled the summer schedule, the show has already begun casting and may air as soon as February. The typical summer schedule includes three nights of “Big Brother” per week, but it’s unclear if the show’s earlier return will follow this same format. Host Julie Chen is still on board, as she has been for the previous eight seasons of the series, but the big buzz is the possibility of a celebrity edition.
JORJA FOX is leaving “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.” The actress will exit the long-running drama sometime in November following contractual conflicts.
