Barbara Walters’ choice of the Kardashians for her Most Fascinating People 2011 special didn’t go over too well with the audience of The View.

When Joy Behar asked, “Why are they so fascinating to you?” Walters explained, “We tried to take people who have done something in the past year that has made them very important… we try to take positive people.”

Barbara Walters Heart Surgery to Replace Valve (The View Video)

Barbara Walters will undergo heart surgery to replace a valve, she shared with fans of The View this morning.

Barbara Walters started The View with the heart surgery news, saying, “Later this week, I’m going to have surgery to replace one faulty heart valve.”

Walters kept even her View co-hosts in the dark, apparently only revealing news of her heart surgery before they took to the stage.

Joy Behar commented, “You kept it secret very well, Barbara,” and Walters explained, “I thought it best not to talk about it too far in advance.”

Walters said the faulty valve was discovered during an echocardiogram.

Barbara Walters is expected to take between one and three months to recover.

Watch the video clip from The View, where Barbara Walters announces that her Oscars specials will end after this year’s Academy Awards.

Walters commented: “ABC has asked me to keep doing these specials as they have been so successful – and I’m thrilled we have such great stars and have such a wonderful show. But to be honest, I feel like I’ve ‘been there, done that.’”

The final Barbara Walters Oscars special will have Walters interviewing Sandra Bullock and Mo’Nique.

It didn’t come as too huge of a surprise that Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People special named Michelle Obama as the Most Fascinating person of 2009, did it?

During Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People special, Walters interviewed Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, Kate Gosselin, Glen Beck, Sarah Palin and others… but first lady Michelle Obama was crowned the Most Fascinating Person of 2009.

Michelle Obama talked about her famously fit arms and getting settled into the white house:

“It has been a whirlwind. But it’s been amazing. I mean, if you think about this year, I had to get these two beautiful girls settled into a new city, into a new home, into a new school. We got a dog. I visited eight countries with my husband. I planted a garden. I’ve started a mentoring program. It has been everything. And now, here we are at our first Christmas in the White House.”

Michelle Obama also shared her guilty pleasure – enjoying “lazy days,” watching “really bad TV” with the family dog, Bo.

ABC is giving Adam Lambert a second chance… sort of. Lambert is set to perform on the December 10 episode of The View – only, to make sure there’s no scandalicious behavior, the segment will be pre-taped.

ABC recently canceled live performances by Adam Lambert on Good Morning America, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve. No live shows for Adam on ABC, it appears.

Look for Lambert on Wednesday’s Barbara Walters Most Fascinating People special.
