In the clip, Matthews says: “I was trying to think about who he was tonight. And uh, it’s interesting. He is post-racial, by all appearances. You know, I forgot he was black tonight for an hour. “I was watching, I said, ‘wait a minute!’ He’s an African-American guy in front of a bunch of other white people and there he is president of the United States and we’ve completely forgotten that tonight — completely forgotten it!”

MSNBC did not comment on Matthews’ quote.

Barack Obama’s press secretary, Robert Gibbs, learned from reporters that Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize – he then phoned the White House to deliver the good news.

Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the Nobel Committee said of Barack Obama’s win: “Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future. In the past year Obama has been a key person for important initiatives in the U.N. for nuclear disarmament and to set a completely new agenda for the Muslim world and East-West relations.”
