Kiefer Sutherland ready for release from jail

Kiefer Sutherland will be out of jail on Monday. He will have served his entire 48-day sentence. Apparently he spent the time doing laundry, mopping, and emptying out the trash. His sentence wasn’t very long for his DUI charge, but at least he served the whole thing, instead of just a few hours like most celebrities.

Happy birthday shout-out to “24” star Kiefer Sutherland, who turns 41 today. Bummer he’s got to spend his birthday in a California jail, but kudos to Kiefer for doin’ the time for his crime.

Kiefer Sutherland is currently serving 48 days in jail for a DUI charge, and while he had the option of waiting until after the holidays (and his birthday) to serve his sentence, he opted to get it over with. Just because Kiefer Sutherland is in jail, don’t think his fans have forgotten about him. A spokesman for the Glendale City Jail, where Kiefer Sutherland is serving his 48-day sentence, reports that he gets “easily more than 100 letters a day.”

Perhaps the fan mail will brighten his stay – Kiefer Sutherland will be in jail for his birthday, Christmas and New Year’s.

Kiefer Sutherland Sentenced to 48 Days in Jail

Kiefer Sutherland, the latest celebrity to get arrested for DUI, was handed his sentence today – the “24” star was sentenced to 48 days in jail. While Sutherland has until March 30th to complete his 48 day sentence, he decided to surrender immediately and start his sentence at the Glendale, Calfornia jail.

Kiefer Sutherland also received five years probation, required attendance of an 18-month alcohol education program and six months of weekly therapy sessions. Sutherland is expected to serve the full term, according to a statement from the L.A. County Attorney’s Office:

“Sutherland will be serving the 48 days in the Glendale City Jail, with no early release and no good time/work time credit, so we expect that he will serve the entire 48 days in jail.”

On top of his DUI and his jail sentence, Kiefer Sutherland is officially out of work; 24 has been placed on indefinite hiatus due to the writers’ strike. Not enough episodes have been written to keep the show going through the Winter.

Kiefer Sutherland, star of 24, made an illegal u-turn in Hollywood at 1 am Tuesday morning; when officers pulled him over he failed the sobriety test and was booked at the LAPD Hollywood police station. He was released on bail and has a court date for OCtober 16th. He was last convicted of a DUI in 2004, and he may face a minimum of four days in jail if he’s convicted. In the meantime he’s still on a five year probation for the previous DUI and as a result could even get up to 60 days.
