Bryan Adams, Nelly Furtado Lip Sync “Bang the Drum” 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony (Video)

Did you catch the Bryan Adams, Nelly Furtado lip sync performance of “Bang the Drum” at the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremony last night?
The lip syncing was so incredibly obvious – watch the video of Bryan Adams/Nelly Furtado’s duet of “Bang the Drum”.
You can see Bryan Adams completely miss his singing part during the opening – we hear Bryan Adams’ voice, but he doesn’t put the microphone up for a couple of seconds. Watch at about :32 into the video clip.
Ouch. Don’t Bryan Adams and Nelly Furtado have the talent to pull off a live performance?

The performance was a disaster. The lip syncing was comical, and Furtado’s voice didn’t suit the song at all and blended terribly with Adams’s. Also, the performance was too long.

I’ve read before (can’t recall where now) that pretty much ALL performances at any Olympic ceremony are pre-recorded and lip-synced due to the size and thus poor acoustics of the Olympic stadium/arena. It allows for better broadcast/audio clarity for the spectators apparently.
Still…no reason for missing your queue to start lip-syncing though.

I can personally say I don’t understand why they had them lip sync. I’ve seen Bryan Adams live, there is no doubt the man can sing, I think it is a bit of an insult to them as artists to have them lip sync especially someone like Adams. I didn’t mind the performance though and I loved the song, so I’m willing to forgive.

They lip sync 90% of live events that are broadcast on TV to avoid technical difficulties. Even the orchestra was prerecorded.
This is not big news it’s been done that way for years, even the executive producer, David Atkins, said it was all prerecorded in a CTV interview. The VSO turned it down because he wanted them to record and another orchestra to prtend to play the music live.

Yeah, cause of acoustics, a shame they couldn’t sing live, we know they can. But you would not have heard anything but echo if they had sung live, because of the closed roof.
