Despite appearing in promo ads with Russell Brand for the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), Britney Spears won’t perform at the event.

Britney Spears’ manager, confirmed the news this morning to Ryan Seacrest, who read the statement during his radio show: “Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year. I’m telling you officially and unequivocally that B.S. will not be there.”

Britney Spears will pass on the VMAs, instead working on her new album.

The MTV Video Music Awards airs September 7.
