Well, so much for Britney Spears’ manager saying that Brit Brit won’t be at the MTV Video Music Awards/VMAs – now comes word that she’ll open the show on Sunday!

Britney Spears told People.com in a statement, “MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs? I’m excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated.”

Britney Spears is nominated for three VMA’s: Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year for “Piece of Me.”

Look for Britney Spears at the 2008 VMAs this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
