Emily Deschanel aka Bones

Who do you call when a body barbecued in the incinerator? Well, the answer is Bones (Anthropologist Dr. Temperence Brennan) anyway, but she becomes the even more logical person when the barbecued body is found at the Jeffersonian, where Bones works.

The murder becomes even more personal when Angie (Forensic Facial Reconstructionalist Angela Montenegro) reveals that she knows the victim personally. The victim, Kristin, is an intern at the Jeffersonian in the Authentication Department, and she and Angie had coffee together on multiple occasions. Bones is equally horrified when she realizes Kristin is the daughter of one of her former professors.

Meanwhile, there is a serial killer on the loose, who uses the what’s in the “Gormagon vault” to murder and brand his victims with a “G.” Initally, Angie, Bones, and coworkers  Zach Addy, and Dr. Jack Hodgins (Angie’s fiance) believe that Kristin’s murder is another victim of the serial killer. However, Special Agent Seeley Booth insists that it is unrelated, even going so far as to beg Bones to “not go there.” So what did happen to Kristin – and is it related to Gormagon? And, if it is Gormagon, does that mean that the serial killer works in the Jeffersonian?

Obviously, the team has a lot to find out – and soon. There only lead is that Kristin was seeing an older, married man, and their relationship was starting to get “hot and heavy.” Booth, Bones, and Angie go about trying to figure out who that could be, while Zach and Hodgins try to recreate what happened.

Finally, the team pieces together that Kristin was having an affair with Dr. Kyle Aldridge, who works in the office suites. When Bones questions him, he admits nothing an is released. Minutes later, Bones is conversing with Angie who makes a startling revelation: the serial killer is a cannibal, eating human flesh. Since Aldridge is a vegetarian, this eliminates him, but only if Kristin has indeed been killed by the serial killer.

And then Aldridge is found dead, hanging from the end of a rope that is a part of the Gormagon vault. Despite the suicide note left to his wife, apologizing for the affair, they realize that it cannot be an actual suicide attempt because the of the way he was hoisted. It all goes back to the Vault.

Finally, Angie is able to piece together what happened. There was an artifact on the table with a sharp point. Kristin fell back onto the table – accidentally – and Aldridge panicked, and threw her down the shoot.

The only question left is what the artifact was doing there. As it turns out, mail sent to the Jeffersonian doesn’t get checked, except for by the interns working in the Authentication Department. As a result, artifacts from Iran and Iraq were being smuggled into the United States through the Jeffersonian.

Kristin was a part of the plan, and  the final pieces of the puzzle fall into place when another of the workers at the Jeffersonian comes by to pick up the murder weapon and is subsequently charged with the murder of Kyle Aldridge, proven by the rope burns on his skin.

“Bones” airs at 8/7 Central on Tuesday nights.
