Big Brown Wins 2008 Kentucky Derby; Eight Belles Breaks Ankles, Euthanized (Video)
The excitement of today’s 2008 Kentucky Derby was bittersweet — Big Brown was crowned the winner, but Eight Belles, who finished second, broke both ankles and had to be euthanized.
A very sad day in horse racing, for sure. Watch the 2008 Kentucky Derby video above, showing Big Brown’s victory and Eight Belles’ ankle injury (she broke both of her front ankles). The vet interviewed explains why Eight Belles needed to be euthanized immediately.

OMG!!! this is soo sad….i watched a video of it on utube i cryed…….do u think that jocket knew that she had an injury but still wanted to race……well at least we know that she is safe in heaven with no more pain……..and she is probably galoping in beuatiful pastures…….and enjoying herself like no other…….at least we know she is up in heaven with God and is loved by everyone up there!!!!!! Rest in Peace Eight Belles…..i feel really bad for the people that loved her like a family member because she was one to them.

that is sooooooooooooo sad. the jockey didn’t know that it was that bad so they raced her. R.I.P Eight Belles
