The Big Brother cast has been announced – and it looks like a pretty homogeneous crowd – not too much diversity, I guess you could say.

As for the twists – well, this aging reality show has to do something to mix up the formula a little, and this season, the contestants will be paired up. And not just willy-nilly either. Nope, each contestant will be paired with their scientifically determined “soulmate.” Well, sorta scientific. Host Julie Chen said that “Each houseguest filled out a love match profile as part of their application.”

The pairs have to stick together – even through eviction. Yikes!

According to Big Brother 9’s executive producer Allison Grodner, “Your life in the house depends on this other person. You’re going to sleep in the same bed together, you’re going to compete together, hold the Head of Household together, get nominated together, and ultimately get evicted together.”

Big Brother 9 housemates included nine men and seven women, so one couple will be two guys. The show is expected to last eight weeks if they follow the format of evicting the pair together. The series could go longer if the soulmates are split or other factors in the game change up the rules.
