Barack Obama to Cancel SNL Appearance Due to Hurricane Ike

With Hurricane Ike wreaking in Texas, Barack Obama has canceled his appearance on tonight’s Saturday Night Live/SNL. Barack Obama felt it was not appropriate to make the SNL guest appearance due to the destruction in Texas.
Lorne Michaels had issued a statement Friday about the tone of SNL, saying “If it’s [the hurricane] serious, it will change everything for us. The tone of the show will shift, and it would be inappropriate for the senator to do if it looks in any way like it’s going to be a tragedy.”
Barack Obama’s spokeswoman issued this statement yesterday: “In light of the unfolding crisis in Texas, Senator Obama has decided it is no longer appropriate to appear on Saturday Night Live tomorrow evening.”
