Are Zhu Zhu Pets safe? That’s the question this Today show piece tries to get to the bottom of.
California consumer safety group Good Guide has tested the Zhu Zhu hamster called Mr. Squiggles and found unsafe levels of the toxic metal antimony, as well as potentially unsafe levels of tin.
Good Guide is not, however, calling for a recall.
The company that makes Zhu Zhu Pets, Cepia says that the hamsters have passed all tests and are completely safe.
The Zhu Zhu hamsters were tested and found to have 93 parts per million in the fur, and 103 in the nose; the federal limit is 60 parts per million.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is currently investigating the product.
