“Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?”
Since it was on after American Idol last year, I contributed to the show’s high ratings for the first season. I thought it was cute, but a little stupid, and we continued to watch it. There was nothing else on, after all, and there was no reason to turn it off.
It was frustrating, though, watching these little fifth graders smile smugly about their “intelligence” as adult after adult has to concede that they are not smarter than a fifth grader. My main problem with the show is clearly, students are learning some different things than before. For instance, I didn’t know what an REM cycle was until I called up my sister, yet the fifth graders on the show knew. Needless to stay, I stopped watching when I learned the children were given the answers before the show began. It made a clever show stupid.
But, the show’s producers are still trying to save it. How? With the inclusion of celebrities to the show. Watch on Thursday at 8Pm if you’re interested in this monstrosity. All I have to say: if it’s dead, leave it alone!
