American Idol Top 9 Sing Popular iTunes Downloads March 31 Recap (Video)

On tonight’s American Idol, the top 9 finalists could sing any song they wanted as long as it’s a popular download on iTunes. Check out the March 31 Idol recap:

Anoop Desai sang “Caught Up” by Usher – Randy said vocals were good considering it wasn’t the right song; Kara said he played it safe; Paula liked that he went back to the playful side and his vocals sounded good, but he should work on stage presence; Simon said it was a complete mess and he didn’t show any originality.

Megan Joy Corkrey sang “Turn Your Lights Down Low” by Bob Marley and Lauryn Hill – Kara said she really likes her but thinks she’s in trouble; Paula said she needs to take us by surprise; Simon said the song was boring and indulgent; Randy commented that just because she loves a song, doesn’t mean she sings it great.

Danny Gokey sang “What Hurts the Most” by Rascal Flatts – Paula said he thrived with this performance; Simon said it was his best performance yet; Randy said he brought it with the vocals and showed his range; Kara said he moved everyone emotionally.

Allison Iraheta sang “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt – Randy said she rushed it a little and questioned what she’s wearing; Kara said the rock in her comes out but thought she was forcing to be someone she just is already; Paula said she’s skating by right to the finish line; Simon said she seemed slightly precocious and we lost her identity, plus she shouted the song.

Scott MacIntyre sang “Just The Way You Are” by Billy Joel – Kara said he made a smart decision singing that song and sing a moving performance; Paula is most proud of Scott; Simon said it was his best performance; Randy said he was one of the best of the night.

Matt Giraud sang “You Found Me” by the Fray – Paula appreciate he tried a contemporary song, but it became more of a sound-alike; Simon said it was very uptight and uncomfortable; Randy said it was the wrong song for him because he’s not a rock kind of singer; Kara said he needs to commit to a certain sound, said he doesn’t deserve to go home.

Lil Rounds sang “I Surrender” by Celine Dion – Randy said it wasn’t a perfect song choice but said she sang it really well and has great vocal skills; Kara said her upper register is effortless; Paula said she wants to see the joy in Lil, she can sing; Simon said it was a safe song but similar to a wedding performance.

Adam Lambert sang “Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry – Paula said something about how brilliant he was; Simon said it was original; Randy said he was in the star zone; Kara said she can’t wait to see him every week.

Kris Allen sang “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers – Randy said he’s so in the zone and one of the best performances of the night; Kara said “that is artistry”; Paula said that could be the first cut from his album and his best performance to date; Simon said he brought confidence and it was a very good arrangement, his best performance.
