The mystery mentor… Jamie Foxx!
Kris Allen sang “The Way You Look Tonight” – Jamie Foxx had mad love for Kris… as well he should. Randy said it was his best performance to date; Kara said he set the technical standard so high for the evening and called him truly a dark horse; Paula said he’s a contemporary crooner; Simon thought it was a little bit “wet” and not incredible, but good.
Allison Iraheta sang “Someone to Watch Over Me” – Jamie calls it “absolutely innocent.” Randy said it was the bomb and he loved it; Kara said it was an emotional rendition beyond her years; Paula said it had an innocent sensibility; Simon said it was a great performance but still thinks she could be in trouble.
Matt Giraud sang “My Funny Valentine” – Randy said it was a little bit pitchy; Kara didn’t think he was emotionally connected; Paula loved what he did with the song and felt the connection; Simon really liked it, called him absolutely brilliant.
Danny Gokey sang “Come Rain or Come Shine” – Jamie Foxx got in his face and that helped somehow… Randy said he could have an album of songs like that; Kara said he had “rat pack swagger” and called it unbelievable; Paula said it was a stellar performance; Simon said his vocals and performance showed he had something to prove, and that it was outstanding.
Adam Lambert sang “Feeling Good” – Jamie said he’s gonna knock everybody’s head off… Randy said it was theatrical, but he’s in the zone; Kara said he’s shocking in a good way; Paula said he’s like an olympic athlete; Simon said he wants to entertain and win.
