We’re down to the top 4 American Idol finalists – and finally, a great theme tonight – rock week.
Here’s the rundown for the American Idol May 5 recap:
First, Ryan tells us an accident happened on stage with one of the set pieces falling and the contestants didn’t get a proper run through.
He also told us that, for the first time ever, the contestants are pairing up for duets!
We get the rundown on mentor Slash.
Adam Lambert sang “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin – Randy said this is the Adam that he loves and he’s a rock star; Kara called him a rock god; Paula called it a whole lotta perfect; Simon said it was one of his favorite perfomances of Adam’s and that no one can top it tonight.
Allison Iraheta sang “Cry Baby” – Randy said she can sing anything, but didn’t love the song choice; Kara said Janis Joplin is the right choice, but maybe a different song; Paula called her fearless; Simon said it was a terrific vocal, but she was trying too hard to sound like the original.
Kris Allen and Danny Gokey sing “Renegade” by Styx – Randy really liked the harmonies and thought they complemented each other well; Kara said there were pitchy moments but overall united and strong; Paula said they did a good job; Simon said Danny was better than Kris.
Kris Allen sang “Come Together” – Randy said he liked he picked something that let him be Kris; Kara said he’s the softer side of rock, but didn’t think it was a great performance; Paula said his signature was all over it; Simon didn’t like it that much and thought it was boring.
Danny Gokey sang “Dream On” – Randy said it’s not his genre and it was alright, but gave him an A+ for effort; Kara didn’t think it was his thing, but she liked that he took a risk; Paula wasn’t sure it was the right song but liked that he went for it; Simon said the last night was like a horror movie.
Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert sang “Slow Ride” – Randy said it was the bomb; Kara said they pushed each other to be better; Paula called them a perfect blend; Simon said they won the battle of the duets.
