American Idol 8 kicks off the top 13 finals with a night of Michael Jackson songs. Here’s a recap of how the top 13 shook out on March 10:

Simon Cowell breaks the news of a double elimination tomorrow – 2 of the American Idol contestants are going home tomorrow!

Lil Rounds – we get some backstory about her family; sings “The Way You Make Me Feel.” Randy said this is the way to kick off the season and he loved it; Kara said she was great; Paula said she’s a force to be reckoned with; Simon thought it was a little song choice, thought it was good and hated what she was wearing!

Scott MacIntyre – we learn more about how Scott developed his musical talent; sings “Keep the Faith” and plays piano. Kara liked the message that he delivered with the song and loves that he’s true to himself; Paula said it was a lovely performance; Simon hated it because nobody knows the song; Randy said the performance seemed safe and he wants to see more sparks. Danny Gokey – tells about growing up and having a song for everything; sings “PYT (Pretty Young Thing).” Paula gets weepy and thinks he’ll go to the finals; Simon thought the vocals were brilliant but thought the dancing was hideous; Randy said he loved it all; Kara said he brings his joy to the stage.

Michael Sarver – we get a peek at his hometown, family and co-workers; sings “You Are Not Alone.” Simon said he gave it 110%; Randy said he’s one of the best; Kara said he did a great job; Paula said he sounded lovely.

Jasmine Murray – shows her close-knit, supportive family; sings “I’ll Be There.” Randy said he was impressed; Kara said she sold it and has great stage presence; Paula said she had some bright moments and some times when she was “under;” Simon thought it was a little bit robotic.

Kris Allen – talks about how music is part of his family’s lives; sings “Remember the Time” and plays guitar. Kara said playing the guitar helps him performance-wise; Paula said he’s adorable-sexy and he did a great job; Simon wasn’t sure the song suited the guitar; Randy said it was a job well-done.

Allison Iraheta – shows her family and singing in a store (so cute); sings “Give in to Me.” Paula said she’s a rock star and we’ll be seeing more of her; Simon said it was very good; Randy said she’s one to watch; Kara said she did a great job.

Anoop Desai – talks about growing up as an only child; sings “Beat It.” Paula said she thinks the song is untouchable, but she loves him; Simon said it was horrible, karoake; Randy said it was the wrong choice; Kara felt disconnected from him.

Jorge Nunez – dishes on his dynamic family; sings “Never Can Say Goodbye.” Randy wasn’t thrilled with the song choice; Kara didn’t feel the emotional connection; Paula didn’t think the song was right; Simon thought the arrangement was old fashioned.

Megan Joy Corkrey – talks about her child and divorce; sings “Rockin’ Robin.” Kara said she injected her personality into it, but she wants to see more range; Paula loves the unique tone, but felt disconnected; Simon said it was a stupid song choice and vocals weren’t very good; Randy wasn’t a fan either.

Adam Lambert – talks about his journey; sings “Black or White.” Paula says we’ll be seeing him in the finals; Simon said it was in a totally different league from everything else of the night; Randy said he could make a record right now and loves him; Kara said she hopes Michael Jackson is watching this.

Matt Giraud – we get a glimpse at his proud parents; sings “Human Nature” and plays piano. Randy said he liked it; Kara said she hopes to see him for many more weeks; Paula was blown away; Simon said it was very good.

Alexis Grace – shows her musical influence and her daughter; sings “Dirty Diana.” Kara said she’s a naughty girl and she liked it; Paula said to watch oversinging; Simon said it was too over the top; Randy liked the attitude and thought it was good.
