American Idol top 10 finalists sing - recap
We’re down to the top 10 on American Idol 8! Tonight’s AI (March 25) had the finalists singing songs of Motown, with mentor Smokey Robinson helping out. Check out the recap to see how it all went down.

Matt Giraud – “Let’s Get it On,” by Marvin Gaye – Randy said he’s challenging the others for the top spot; Kara said it was a solid performance; Paula said he showed a sexy/cool vibe; Simon said his voice suits that song and that he’s one of the front runners.

Kris Allen – “How Sweet it Is,” by Marvin Gaye – Kara said he did his own version and said he made his mark and did everything right; Paula said he picked a great song and it was brilliant; Simon said it was smart to do his version but thinks he needs to believe in himself more; Randy said “it’s all good.”

Scott MacIntyre – ”You Can’t Hurry Love,” by The Supremes – Paula said it was a nice choice; Simon said it wasn’t a great version of the song and was cheap; Randy said it was a very hotel performance and he needs to take risks and was very average; Kara said he brought some tempo but didn’t think the execution was great.

Megan Joy Corkrey – “For Once in My Life,” by Stevie Wonder – Randy said it was a train wreck and bizarre; Kara said she didn’t dominate the song; Paula said she’s stunning and the camera loves her (kiss of death) and said the song wasn’t right; Simon said it was horrible.

Anoop Desai – “Ooh Baby Baby,” by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles – Kara said overall it was a hard song but he did a good job and he can sing; Paula thought he was sweet and tender; Simon said it was a great vocal but he looked half asleep; Randy told him to get the party on for the next performance.

Michael Sarver – “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” by Temptations – Paula said it felt a little Las Vegas lounge-y; Simon said he couldn’t wait for it to end; Randy said the song was a little too big for him; Kara thinks he needs to bring something different as an artist.

Lil Rounds – “Heatwave,” by Martha and the Vandellas – Randy didn’t think it was the right song and that she was rushing; Kara didn’t think it was the right song either and wants more from her; Paula said she owned that song; Simon said it sounded like it was too fast, but she is one of the best singers in the competition.

Adam Lambert – “Tracks of my Tears,” by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles – Kara said it was one of the best performances of the night; Paula love it; Simon said is was definitely the best of the night; Randy said it was unbelievably hot.

Danny Gokey – “Get Ready,” by The Temptations – Paula said he consistently delivers; Simon said it was clumsy; Randy said it wasn’t his best but loved the energy; Kara loved his personality and is a huge Danny fan.

Allison Iraheta – “Papa was a Rolling Stone,” by The Temptations – Randy said it was blazing hot; Kara said she was amazing; Paula said she’s amazing and beautiful; Simon said it was one of her best performances.

the judges should be disallowed from mentioning “the wrong song” again… that’s such a cop-out answer seriously. all they have to say is “Sorry, you fail because…” (thank you Simon for being the only original judge)
