Adam Lambert – big surprise, we learn that Adam was really noisy as a kid and would scream at bedtime! Adam sings “Mad World” – Randy said he loves how he’s showing his sensitive side, gave him an A+; Kara was happy he chose that song; Paula is incredibly proud and thought it was a brilliant job; Simon thought it overly theatrical, a little Phantom of the Opera.
Kris Allen – didn’t like to sing in front of his family, so they paid him a quarter to get him to sing. Kris sings “Ain’t No Sunshine” – Randy said he can tell exactly what kind of artist he is and said it was one of his best performance; Kara agrees with Randy, saying he creates an intimate bond with everyone; Paula said he Allenizes every song he sings; Simon said he takes his doubts about Kris back after that performance!
Adam Lambert sings “A Change is Gonna Come” – Randy said it’s an amazing R&B classic and that Adam can sing his face off/it was unbelievable; Kara said that was maybe his best performance and interpretation; Paula said it was the best she’s ever heard him sing; Simon said he’s 100% back in the game.
Kris Allen sings “What’s Goin’ On” – Randy said it’s a great song choice, but thought it was a little bit light for this point in the competition; Kara said he’s been true to himself since day 1 and liked that it was a socially conscious song; Paula said he tore it up and made Marvin proud; Simon said it was like 3 friends strumming along to Marvin Gaye, thought it was too laid back.
Adam Lambert singing “No Boundaries” – Randy said he can sing anything, but that wasn’t one of his favorite Adam performances, was a little pitchy; Kara said it is amazing to have someone with his level of talent singing her co-written song; Paula is very proud and adjectives can’t express what he’s brought to season 8; Simon said over the entire season he’s been one of the most original contestants and said they’ve found a star.
Kris Allen sings “No Boundaries” – Randy said he should be proud and is an amazing competitor; Kara said he’s a compelling artist and he’s been incredible to watch this season; Paula said he’s done an amazing job to end up in the finals; Simon said he deserves to be standing on the stage tonight.
