Aretha Codner, 22, of Buffalo, NY tries to prove that she can live up to the name Aretha (Franklin) — but falls a bit short, singing Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing.” Unfortunately, Aretha Codner doesn’t make it through to the Hollywood round.

A couple of things on Aretha Codner’s “American Idol 7″ South Carolina audition: first, what’s with Paula snickering when Aretha walked into the room? That seemed really unprofessional. And second, Simon was a little too fixated on her giant belt, don’tcha think?

In the end, Arehta Codner was in disbelief over the judges’ decision and tries to reverse their decision. Hey, at least she’s confident!

I didn’t think she was that bad of a singer at all. The judges probably have a quota to fill. They’re getting harder as the years go by and more people try out.

i didnt think she was bad at all and she was right they let through some pretty plain singers befor her like the 16 year old dance team girl….not to she shouldnt have made it but this women acually have a voice that could’ve won and simon was wayyyy off in my opinion. to me it seems like their minds were made up b4 she even started to sing

No, she was not that bad. I did hear though that she changed pitch and tone a few times. It is a common technique that people use when they can not hit certain notes after each other.

I wish her luck in the future!!

Simon Cowell’s an idiot… I mean, is this a fashion competition or a singing one?

They spent more time attacking her choice of clothing…

The girl can sing, and I found it very distastful the way they treated her…

It was as though they had already made up their minds about her before she sang a note (observe Paula’s initial reaction, when she walks through the door)

    Disgusting

I feel for my cousin. I think that the song was too big for her voice. She can sing but she’ll need more voice training before she can even think of attempting a Whitney Houston song.

She wasnt terrible at all, all of the judges are full of shit. Theres no way they can say she couldnt sing. I hope one day someone discovers her, and she becomes famous so she can shine!! American Idol is officially BS!!

that was amazing (for BAD) verdict .
I lost all credit i had for Simon and Randy . as for
the stammerer lady sitting between them , i lost nothing
as i’ve never understood what she primary has to do with music.
Aretha definitely has alot of potential .
dont give up young lady – your time will come .
