David Archuleta is the youngest American Idol contestant this season, but don’t discount age for experience. Like Carly Smithson, David Archuleta has been around the musical horn (heh), competing on Star Search and singing on The Jenny Jones Show when he was younger.

David Archuleta got some screen time during the audition phase of American Idol because he had suffered vocal paralysis in the past. Everyone loves a good comeback story – and this kid is showing that he’s coming back strong.

David Archuleta has that sweet innocence and pure voice that voters are falling in love with – and even when he goes wrong (flubbing lyrics), we all still forgive him because he’s adorable. Even Simon Cowell predicted early in the competition that David Archuleta will win American Idol.

Beware the overbearing stage dad, however. Rumors are swirling that David Archuleta’s dad may ruin his chances of winning.
