A rep for Luke Menard’s a capella group, Chapter 6, has confirmed the rumors: the American Idol 7 finalist has been diagnosed with cancer.

Luke Menard has been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. The rep confirmed the cancer diagnosis with CBS News, saying:

“Luke had a lingering cough and was having trouble breathing deeply, so he went to the doctor to have it checked out. The suspicion was walking pneumonia. But after a chest x-ray doctors saw a mass and did more testing, which is what led to the stage II Hodgkin diagnosis.”

His rep added, “They’ve been told that it’s treatable and manageable. Luke is currently in Los Angeles and plans to return home to Indiana soon.”

Luke Menard, age 29, was voted off of American Idol on March 6, 2008 — he made it into the top 16.
