Drew Poppelreiter of Saltillo, Mississippi is a good old fashioned farmer — but how did he do with his “American Idol 7″ Dallas audition?

Check out Drew Poppelreiter in this “American Idol 7″ video clip, singing “Check Yes or No,” by George Straight. Looks like the judges checked “yes” for the Hollywood round!

Drew’s behavior seemed overdone to me. I’m sure he’s a farmer and a country boy, but his whole “I reckon I can giv’ that city life a try” came across as forced and faked.

He’s got a great voice and a lot of potential. I just hope he can relax and be himself rather than the next “Larry the Cable Guy” routine.

well Matt…I hate to tell you…but not really…lol But there was nothing fake or forced about Drew. He is 100% country boy and not a thing is wrong with that!! We are as pleased about being country as city people are proud of being from a big city!! I’m from the same town as Drew and I know his family!

People from Satillo don’t have to fake being country. That is just the way they are. Memphis is the closest big city to this town and a lot of people never even make it to there. Let him be. He is southern to the core and you can’t make that up.
