“American Idol” season 6 winner Jordin Sparks was expected to fly out of the gate with her new album, but it looks like her album sales for the first week are the lowest of any “Idol” winner. Granted, it’s the first week, but Billboard is reporting Jordin Sparks’ album is “the lowest start and smallest sales debut for any of the show’s winners.” Ouch.
Look on the bright side, though. Jordin Sparks’ debut is sitting at number 10 on the Billboard 200. However, it’s only sold 119,000 copies. Look at it this way: Kelly Clarkson, who won the first season of “American Idol,” sold 297,400 albums and was number one on the charts the first week. Ruben Studdard sold 416,000 and was #1; Fantasia Barrino sold more than 239,00 and was #8; Carrie Underwood sold 315,000 and landed at #2; Taylor Hicks sold 298,000 and was #2.
OK, when news broke that “Dancing with the Stars” winner Helio Castroneves had called off his engagement to Aliette Vazquez, you can’t tell me the rumor mills weren’t buzzing with the possibility that he and Julianne Hough may be a couple? While Helio states that he would prefer to keep his “private life private,” you can bet there isn’t much hope for that.
So, are Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough a couple? “Dancing with the Stars” cast-offs Sabrina Bryan and Mark Ballas have already confirmed their relationship, so it’s not out of the question. Helio Castroneves did tell Extra that when he kissed Julianne after their final dance, it “was the beginning of something [but] it [the relationship] was beyond that point. Looks like “Ugly Betty” and “High School Musical 2” are family favorites, as they each took home awards Wednesday night at the Family Television Awards.
America Ferrera won a best actress award for her role as Betty on “Ugly Betty,” while the series won best comedy. Ferrera can add the Family Television Award to her growing list of awards: Golden Globe, Emmy and Screen Actors Guild honoors.
Zac Efron took the best actor award for his role as Troy Bolton in “High School Musical 2,” while the Disney movie nabbed best movie musical award.
Jennifer Love Hewitt, who stars on the CBS drama “Ghost Whisperer,” is engaged to actor Ross McCall. Hewitt has also had roles on TV’s “Party of Five” and “Time of Your Life.” Her fiancé is a Scottish actor who has appeared on “Ghost Whisperer,” “Band of Brothers” and “CSI: NY.” No wedding plans have been revealed yet.
Casting for the third season of “America’s Got Talent” is underway… but wait, there’s more! The winner of season three could join a spin-off series called “World’s Got Talent,” that would pit “America’s Got Talent” winners against the winners of the international versions.
Simon Cowell, who created “America’s Got Talent” will “put 25 talent show winners from around the globe in a head-to-head battle so one can be crowned the most talented person on the planet.” The winner would receive $1 million. No pressure – just the most talented person in the entire world.
While season three of “America’s Got Talent” casting is happening now, the new “World’s Got Talent” is expected to air in fall 2008.
Don’t you just love watching “Cribs” on MTV? It’s the “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” for a much hipper generation. 50 Cent will be the latest celebrity to offer up a tour on “Cribs,” airing tonight at 10:30 PM.
50 Cent has made his home in Mike Tyson’s old mansion – and he’ll give the “Cribs” tour of his respectable 19-bedroom home in Farmington, Connecticut tonight. 50 will be selling the property for $18.5 million, so start saving. 50 Cent is looking for a smaller home, saying, “It might be a lot smaller. The basics — maybe four or five bedrooms.”
Is Hulk Hogan’s wife’s (Linda Bollea) excessive spending habits to blame for their divorce? According to the New York Post’s Page Six, a spy says, “Linda wanted to move to California. Hulk and the kids were happy in Florida. They’ve been fighting for quite a while, and a lot of it has to do with her out-of- control spending. She just goes nuts and acts like Hulk has Tom Cruise money – when he doesn’t. She wanted to buy a $12 million house in LA, and when Hulk refused, she went ahead and rented a $35,000-a-month house. They already have four to five houses and she wants more?”
The dance-fest is over, and now Mel B. is thanking the Spice Girls for their “Dancing with the Stars” support on the Spice Girls website. She also thanks the fans, of course…
