150 audience members had the distinct pleasure of seeing a very different “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend. A sold out live theater performance of “Saturday Night Live – On Strike!” was performed Saturday night in Manhattan at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.
Guest host Michael Cera, of “Arrested Development” and “Superbad,” musical guest Yo La Tengo, Norah Jones (in a cameo appearance), and former cast members Rachel Dratch and Horatio Sanz performed.
According to cast member Kenan Thompson, “It was everything that’s never been on the show before. Sometimes it doesn’t get a chance to shine, but it sure shined here.” “SNL” executive producer Lorne Michaels was also in attendance.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the behind-the-scenes staff impacted by the strike.
